David Dunlap Observatory

The David Dunlap Observatory (DDO) is proudly owned by the City of Richmond Hill.

It is a National Historic Site  and it is a designated site under the Ontario Heritage Act as well.

The DDO is still Canada's largest optical telescope with a primary mirror measuring more than 1.88 metres (74 inches) in diameter.

Constructed in the 1930s, the Observatory, located in the heart of Richmond Hill, was at the time of its completion, the second largest optical telescope in the world.

The DDO is one of the largest publicly accessible telescopes in the world being used for optical viewing.

The RASC, Toronto Centre, is a proud program partner providing astronomical programming at the DDO.

You can come and visit either at one of our regularly scheduled events or you can book a group or personal tour for you and your friends (Date Night!).

Come visit us sometime.

Big News!

Last fall I was hired by the City of Richmond Hill as the "Visitor Experience Attendant" for the DDO!

This is me on my first day.

Come on by this summer for a tour.

See you there.

Thanks for visiting my Site.

It's new and I'm always trying to improve.

Check back often and let me know what you think.

Cheers
